Blues museum planned for St. Louis - KOAM TV 7

Blues museum planned for St. Louis

Updated:

Chicago is readily and widely embraced as the home of the blues.

But come next year, the National Blues Museum will settle in 300 miles south in St. Louis.

Organizers of the project say St. Louis has its own deserving musical history, including hometown heroes like Ike Turner, Albert King, and Chuck Berry.

Similar blues shrines have struggled to get off the ground in Chicago.  But St. Louis organizers rallied leaders and musicians in Chicago, Memphis, and Clarksville, Mississippi, as well as contemporary blues artists to make their case.

Music historian Robert Santelli says the key to the museum's viability is educational programs.
