North Miami police chief officially charged with domestic abuse

Updated October 16, 2013 -Domestic abuse charges are filed against a North Miami, Oklahoma police chief.

Kevin Joe Sheppard is charged with one count of domestic abuse and one count of assault and battery after his girlfriend reported that the two had gotten into an argument and things got physical.

Sheppard was booked into the Ottawa County jail on Tuesday and was later released on a $5,000 bond.

North Miami Police Chief Kevin Joe Sheppard was arrested by the Miami Police Department on suspicion of Domestic Violence on October 14, 2013. Sheppard was taken into custody after his girlfriend reported that her observable injuries were caused by Shepard after an argument. Sheppard was transported and booked into the Ottawa County Jail.

Victim reported that she had been in a dating relationship with Sheppard for several months and recently attempted to end the relationship. Victim reported that she and Sheppard had a verbal argument that escalated into Sheppard pushing her down and while falling, victim reported hitting her head on a table corner, causing visible injuries.

Sheppard was taken into custody with incident and bond was set at $5,000 per District Court Judge Culver. An emergency protective order was granted and signed by Judge Culver.

    Bobby Bourne Jr's lawyers requested a change of venue because of publicity about the case.  Bourne had plead not guilty to first-degree murder, statutory rape and child kidnapping in the August 2013 death of Adriaunna Horton.  On Thursday a judge ordered a jury to be selected in Buchanan County and brought to Barton County for the trial, which is scheduled to begin September 21, 2015.More >>

    A Miami, Oklahoma police officer has been indicted by a Grand Jury. Teresa Lashmet is charged with two counts of Perjury and Engaging in a Pattern of Criminal Offenses relating to a traffic stop involving Jerry Dean Payne Jr. According to the indictment, Officer Lashmet lied about being the officer who stopped Payne, lied about ordering Payne to stay in his truck multiple times, and was involved in a scheme to protect the arresting officers.More >>
