POSTED ON BEHALF OF THE MINERS HALL MUSEUM AND SLOVENESS IN SE KANSAS
Miners Hall Museum presents " History of Slovenes" this Sunday, October 20 at 3 pm. Jerry Lomshek, host of the special quarterly exhibit "The Slovenes of Southeast Kansas" will provide information about the History of Slovenes. Jerry will also be available to answer questions about the special exhibit which is on display through December 30.
The special exhibit displays artifacts and items concerning the Slovenes of Southeast Kansas and of Slovenia. Items exhibited express the cultural heritage of the Slovene people. The Slovenes played a significant role in the history of the Southeast Kansas coal fields yet little is known about their history and culture. This exhibit and these presentations is an effort to address that issue
Jerry is a lifetime resident of the Chicopee area and has researched and recorded the history of that area for over 45 years. He has given numerous presentations and written several manuscripts concerning Southeast Kansas history. Being of Slovene heritage, and beginning in 1969, he visited Slovenia ten times, visiting numerous family members and conducted genealogical research.
