POSTED ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF JOPLIN

West entrance to City Hall closed temporarily Oct. 28 – Nov. 4

Starting Monday, October 28, the west entrance to Joplin City Hall will be closed to allow for modernization to the west elevator. All foot traffic will be redirected to the other two City Hall entrances located on the 6th Street side or along Main Street. The west entrance is scheduled to reopen Monday, November 4.

The west elevator is located just inside the west entrance and its repair work necessitates this temporary closing. The two Main Lobby elevators will continue to operate.

Originally opened as the Newman’s Department Store in 1910, this building’s west elevator was utilized as the service elevator by staff and vendors making deliveries. Today, this elevator provides service to the first floor through the fifth floor of Joplin City Hall, for both the staff and public. It also provides access to the Mezzanine, where the “Thomas Hart Benton Evolution of a Mural” exhibit is found, making it the only elevator in the building with a button labeled “M”. Updates to this elevator will provide a more efficient, smoother and faster ride to any of these floors.

Although these students are too young to vote, they're plenty old enough to care about issues our country is facing today. "Ever since Parkland happened, the shooting at Park Land. I've always had this mentality, like it can happen here" Erie High School sophomore, Matthew Inman attended the Pittsburg March For Our Lives rally, and one of the leaders encouraged people from all congressional districts to hold town hall meetings, the spirit of activism was contagious.
