City of Joplin seeking applications for Finance Oversight Committee

Updated:

POSTED ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF JOPLIN, MISSOURI

City seeking applications for Finance Oversight Committee

The City of Joplin offers numerous opportunities for citizens to serve on its Boards, Commissions and Committees. Recently, the Joplin City Council formed a Finance Oversight Committee and is currently accepting applications from Joplin residents interested in the finances of the City wishing to serve on this Board.

The purpose of this Committee is to review the financial impact of special projects on the long term finances of the City and they shall have no oversight into the day-to-day financial operations of the City. It was created for a three-year period and will have five members, chosen by the Mayor and City Council. The term of each member will be for three years.

The Committee will meet only upon the call of the City Council, and will not have regularly scheduled meetings. City staff, as designated by the City Manager, will serve as liaison to the Committee.

Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean stated at the October 21, 2013 Council meeting that applications for this Committee will be accepted until November 2, 2013. Council members will make the appointments during a Council meeting in the near future.

Those interested serving on this City Committee or other City Boards and Commissions may apply through the City’s website or by email at bhogelin@joplinmo.org. For more information, contact the City Clerk’s office at 417-624-0820, ext. 220 or 221.

A full listing of the boards and commissions is available on the City’s website, www.joplinmo.org.
