The Consortium for Respiratory Care held a special open house on Thursday at Missouri Southern State University.
Students, faculty, and community members gathered for the event. The new facility will offer pulmonary function tests, screenings for pulmonary diseases as well as blood pressure testing.
Health officials say it's important to do screenings regularly to prevent future problems.
"If we can do these screenings and determine somebody has one of these diseases, then we can take preventative measures to keep them heathy before they decline and have to spend a lot of time at the hospital," says Sherry Whiteman, a respiratory educator.
Thursday's open house was also in celebration of National Respiratory Care Week, which runs through Friday.
