Pitt State to Host MIAA Cross Country Championships Saturday

Press Release Pittsburg State: 

Pittsburg State University will serve as the host institution for the 2013 MIAA Cross Country Championships Saturday (Oct. 26).
 
The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. (CDT) at Countryside Golf Course, with the men's eight-kilometer race to follow at 10:45 a.m. Team and individual awards presentations will follow at 12 Noon.
 
Admission for the meet is $5. College students and children (17 & under) will be admitted free of charge.
 
The men's field includes seven squads ranked in the top 10 in the most recent USTFCCCA Central Regional rankings (MSSU, 2nd; UCM, 3rd; UNK, 5th; SBU, 6th; FHSU, 7th; PSU, 8th; NWMSU, 9th) as well as a pair of nationally-ranked squads – 10th ranked Missouri Southern and 14th ranked Central Missouri.
 
The Pitt State women enter the meet ranked 16th nationally and the Gorillas lead three squads – Pitt State (3rd), Southwest Baptist (5th) and Nebraska-Kearney (6th) – in the Central Regional top 10.
 
The Fort Hays State men are the defending MIAA champions. The Tigers scored a meet low 64 points to capture the 2012 MIAA title at Maryville, Mo. FHSU bested second-place SBU (74 pts) by 10 points and third-place MSSU (78 pts) by 14 points.
 
FHSU junior Cory Keehn is the defending MIAA individual champion. He won last year's race in 25 minutes, 11.12 seconds.
 
MSSU's Eric Schott (3rd), Adrian Todd (7th) and Jake Benton (9th), UCM's Tyler Stuber (4th), SBU's Trenton Morris (8th) and Nebraska-Kearney's Kevin Carder (10th) all garnered All-MIAA honors with top 10 finishes a year ago.
 
The MSSU women are the defending MIAA champions. The Lions scored a meet low 78 points to edge SBU (84 pts) and Pitt State (89 pts) for the conference crown.
 
Lincoln's Twishana Williams is the top returner from last year's meet. Williams finished as the 2012 MIAA runner-up in 22:28.40.
 
SBU's Ashley Wolkomir (3rd) and Krenda McClure (10th), MSSU's Kaitlyn Belisle (5th)  and UCM's Megan Glamann (9th) all earned All-MIAA accolades in 2012.
