Cherokee County Sheriff's Office holds coat drive

This week was just a preview of the cold temperatures ahead...which means kids will have to break out winter coats. But hanks to the help of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, plenty of kids can be warm for winter.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's office collected gently used or new winter coats for their "Operation Warm Kids" drive. The county set up drop off bins at different locations across the county.

Deputy Justin Noel first thought up the operation when he saw a need for coats in the county's school districts.

He says its important for all children to be prepared for the cold weather.

"There's many needs for coats throughout Cherokee County with the kids. Some either have old coats or don't have coats or just their light coats. So we just saw the need and thought we'd help out and do a coat drive." says Noel.

The coat drive raised over 170 coats that will be distributed to schools within the coming weeks.
