Columbus Animal Shelter looks for donations

Updated:

It's no surprise it takes hard work and dedication to run an animal shelter, and for one Columbus veterinarian, she's doing it all on her own.

Mindy Mayfield owns and operates "All God's Creatures" in Columbus Kansas.

The shelter rescued about 300 to 400 animals each year, and is sustained by adoption fees of the animals. But they're looking for a bigger space for volunteers to take care of the pets.

Mayfield says while it's not entirely affordable yet...they're hoping to raise some funds for the bigger room.

"There's no humane society in Cherokee County, so we kind of fill that void. Unfortunately we don't have a building yet. It's only what room I can spare and what few fosters and all we have." Mayfield says.

The shelter has several animals available for adoption.  Mayfield hopes the animals will be adopted to make additional space before the colder temperatures arrive.
