Joplin Police DWI checkpoint nets 13 arrests

Joplin police team up with other groups to take drunk drivers off the streets. A DWI  checkpoint conducted Saturday night into Sunday morning netted 13 arrests.

Officers sets up a stop at the intersection of Zora and Rangeline Roads contacting more than 14 hundred drivers between 10 PM and 2am. Twenty-one  field sobriety tests were conducted with seven DWI's discovered.  Twelve  tickets were given along with twenty-four warnings, and three were  found to have marijuana.
The Joplin Police Department  worked with Mothers Against Drunk Driving  and the Southwest Missouri DWI task force.  Officers say the goals of the checkpoint are to detect and apprehend impaired drivers, raise awareness the dangers of driving while intoxicated or impaired and to encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.

The checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
