Volleyball Hosts Home Matches This Weekend

The Pittsburg State Volleyball team will hostNebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State in MIAA action on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.and Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Nebraska-Kearney is currently No. 7 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 and third in theMIAA with a 8-2 league record and a 22-3 overall record. The team's two losescame at the hands of Lindenwood (3-1) and Washburn (3-2). MJ Massanet wasrecently named the AVCA National Player of the Week after averaging 4.56 killsand 4.00 digs per set while hitting .326 last week. Ashley Leitner leads theteam with 3.83 kps. Erin Steele is the teams setter, averaging 11.25 assistsper set. Bailey Sokolowski is the teams blocks leader with 71 blocks on theseason for 1.01 bps.

Fort Hays State is 12-13 overall and 3-8 in MIAA play, ranking them 10th in theleague. The team's three conference wins were over Northwest Missouri State,Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist. Taylor Mares leads the Tigers with2.73 kps. Makenzie Weinman leads the team with 4.78 dps. Jenna Ulrich is theleading blocker for Fort Hays with a 1.53 bps. 

The Gorillas a 14-11 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA to place them eighth in theconference. Pitt State is led by Madi Mosier with 2.63 kps and Paula Okrutnawho hits at a .280 clip. Hayley Hansford is the team's setter with 10.01assists per set. Kirsten Erikson leads the team with 17 service aces. LiberoJordan Rehm leads the Gorillas with 4.87 dps. Okrutna and Haylee Gregory leadthe team in blocks with 72 and 71, respectively, on the season.

    Joplin Police received a call about an armed robbery on Sunday just before 10:00 p.m. (April 22, 2018). An employee at Charlie's Chicken (2020E. 32nd Street) says she locked the business up and was walking to her vehicle when a male walked up to her in the parking lot. She said he pointed a handgun at her and demanded the night deposit bag. She gave the suspect the bag and says he ran to the southwest. Police officers could not find him.
