Monett man fighting for his life after his truck was hit by a train

Authorities say a southwest Missouri man ignored lowered railroad crossing arms and is now fighting for his life in the hospital.

Justin Hicks, 22 of Monett, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield after the truck he was driving in was hit by a train.

Authorities say the collision occurred Friday just before 5:00 a.m. at a railroad crossing on Chappell Drive in Monett.

The crossing has two tracks andaccording to the Monett Police a west bound train had just cleared the crossing.  The crossing arms were down and the signals were working and an east bound train was approaching the crossing.

A car first weaved through the bars and then Hicks attempted to do the same - that's when the train hit the passenger side of his truck.

No word yet on Hick's condition.
