Surplus auction held by Cherokee County - KOAM TV 7

Surplus auction held by Cherokee County

A surplus auction was held Friday in Columbus, Kansas.  It's the second time Cherokee County has held the auction.

It took place near the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center and more than 50 people showed up and put up with the mud to put bids on items such as cars, chairs, computers and more.

Cherokee County Treasurer Juanita Hodgson says the proceeds go back to the county.

"Proceeds go back into county general, or for the dump trucks or larger items, they'll go back into road and bridges," says Hodgson.

"It lets the public buy the stuff rather than being discarded," says auction goer Jerry Hixon.  "It gives them the chance to buy vehicles or whatever they may be interested in."

The county says as long as they have stuff to auction they would like to do it yearly.
