Mercy Joplin Receives American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR® ACTION Registry®–GWTGTM Platinum Performance Achievement Award

JOPLIN, MO – Mercy Joplin has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2013 – one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to do so. The award recognizes Mercy Joplin’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Mercy Joplin has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

An awards ceremony and recognition reception will be held Tuesday November 5th at 2:00pm in the Mercy Hospital Joplin lobby. Media is invited to attend.

To receive the ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Mercy Joplin consistently followed the treatment guidelines in the ACTION Registry–GWTG Premier for calendar years 2011-2012 and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures. The standard was met and maintained throughout all 4 hospital transitions before, during and after the May 22, 2011 tornado. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to ACC/AHA Clinical Guideline recommendations, monitors drug safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non- ST- elevation myocardial infarction patients (NSTEMI).

“Mercy Joplin has always been focused on the highest quality of cardiovascular care. Implementing ACTION Registry–GWTG has helped us further improve our services and care. The number of acute myocardial infarction patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart disease and a large aging population,” said Rita Stiles, RN, STEMI Program Coordinator.

ACTION Registry–GWTG is a partnership between the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association with partnering support from the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. ACTION Registry-GWTG empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk STEMI and NSTEMI patients.

Mercy is the sixth largest Catholic health care system in the U.S. and serves more than 3 million people annually. Mercy includes 31 hospitals, 300 outpatient facilities, 39,000 co-workers and more than 2,000 integrated physicians in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Mercy also has outreach ministries in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
