Pittsburg residents voice frustration to Social Security officials

Updated:

Social Security Administration workers met with Pittsburg residents who are concerned about the Social Security office in Pittsburg closing.  The Pittsburg office will consolidate with Joplin's office.

Administration officials say the Pittsburg Social Security building is too expensive to maintain.  But some fellow government officials say there were other options.

"They never gave us an opportunity to provide them with another location so that they could compare costs," says Rep. Julie Menghini from district three of Kansas.  "Perhaps the location we could provide in Pittsburg would take less utilities to run."

Residents voiced frustration that today's meeting happened after the Social Security Administration already made its decision to close the Pittsburg office.
