Joplin Recycling Center celebrates America Recycles Day

The Joplin Recycling Center is celebrating America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling.

This year's theme - "I want to be recycled".

The Joplin Recycling Center gave away compost bins to residents.  And Ozark Gateway Master Naturalists were on hand to demonstrate composting and recycling techniques.

"I feel it's responsible for all of us to do as much as we can to save the planet and not leave it as messy for our children," says recycler Jennifer Lafata.

"We're always educating people - it's not just about 'bring us your aluminum cans' - we try to teach people what they can do at home to reduce the amount of trash that they bring - generate," says Mary Anne Phillips, recycling coordinator.

The recycling center, located on West A Street, will be open again Saturday handing out compost bins, while supplies last.
