Volleyball Plays Way Into MIAA Tournament With Win Over Southern

PRESS RELEASE PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY: 

The Pittsburg State Volleyball team earned theNo. 8 seed in the MIAA Tournament with a 3-0 win over Missouri Southern onSaturday (November 16) evening.

The Gorillas finished the regular season with a 16-15 overall record and a 6-10record in league play. The team will face top-seeded Central Missouri at 7 p.m.on Tuesday, November 19 in Warrensburg.

Pitt State won Saturday's match by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-17. The teamfinished the match with a .322 hitting percentage, while holding MissouriSouthern to .010. The Gorillas also put down 11 team blocks and managed almosttwice as many digs as the Lions, 11.0 to 8.0.

Madi Mosier finished the match with a .533 hitting percentage for the Gorillasas she recorded a match-high 10 kills with only two errors in 15 attempts.Abbie Smith was just under double figures with eight kills, Haylee Gregory andPaula Okrutna each added seven. Gregory had a near perfect hittingpercentage,getting her seven kills in eight attempts with no errors. AshlenSchwartz finished the game with 10 digs, while Jordan Rehm added nine.

Gregory led the Gorilla blockers with six (one solo and five assisted). PaulaOkrutna and Madi Mosier each added four.
