Westar Energy sends crews to Michigan

Westar Energy sends crews to Michigan.

Crews headed to Detroit to assist in restoration after violent storms leave thousands without power.

Topeka, Kan., Nov. 11, 2013 — Westar Energy is responding to a call for help from DTE Energy, in Michigan. Our line crews will assist DTE’s efforts to restore more than 300,000 people left without power following Sunday afternoon’s deadly storms.

Gathered from all over our service territory, 32 crew members are on the way to Terre Haute, Ind. today and will continue on to Michigan tomorrow. The linemen and support crews will report back regularly and Westar will provide updates on Facebook and Twitter to let friends and family know how things are progressing and when our crews will return home.

Westar Energy is a member of the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group, which makes it possible for us to call upon neighboring utilities and their contractors for help restore service following a significant event such as a severe storm. In return, we assist neighboring utilities when they are in need. In the event of catastrophic damage utilities reach out for assistance from across the nation.
