Late run lifts Arkansas-Fort Smith over Southern 74-72

PRESS RELEASE MSSU: 

A 12-2 runover the final 4:36 lifted the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions over the MissouriSouthern basketball team 74-72 tonight inside the Leggett & Platt AthleticCenter. 

Southern(2-1) led by eight (70-62) after a jumper from GregRenfroe with 4:36 left in the game. Fort Smith (4-0) used a 10-2 run to tiethe game at 72 on a dunk from Kenny Martin with 55 seconds left. Southern hadthe ball with 32 seconds to go, but a turnover gave UAFS possession with justover 30 seconds to go. 

UAFS called atimeout, and then another, and out of the stoppage, the Lions would runisolation and Tramel White hit a running jumper with five seconds left to goahead, 74-72. Southern had a chance at the end, but a jumper from JordanTalbert would not go. 

The Lions ledby 11 (45-34) at the break and Southern had a 16-point advantage (50-34), itslargest of the game, after a jumper from Renfroe a minute and a half into thesecond. 

MarquisAddison led all scorers with 21 points on 8-11 shooting. He was 3-5 fromlong range and 2-3 from the free-throw line and added a rebound and two steals.CameronCornelius had 14 points and went 8-10 from the free-throw line, whileTalbert scored nine and added ten rebounds, while dishing out fiveassists. 

Fort Smithhad three score in double-figures, led by 14 points from Seth Youngblood. 

Southern shot42 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free-throw line. They forced22 UAFS turnovers and scored 20 points off of the errors. The Lions had a 40-36advantage in the paint and held UAFS to 24 points below their seasonaverage. 

Southern willbe back in action this weekend as the Lions will travel to Pittsburg State tocompete in the Pittsburg State Tournament. The Lions will face off with Avilaon Friday at 6 pm and will take on Bethany at 1 pm on Saturday.
