Columbus couple hit deer; as husband inspects deer is struck and killed by another vehicle

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED NOVEMBER 20, 2013 BY THE CHEROKEE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

After 6:00 pm yesterday, Mona Nicoletti, 86 of Columbus was driving a 2010 Chevy Mailbu and struck a deer approximately 3 miles east of Columbus. Her husband, 90 year old Louis Nicoletti was a passenger. Neither were injured.

As Louis crosses the highway to inspect the deer, he was struck by an eastbound 2011 Chevy Malibu driven by 63 year old Rosemary Pillar, also of Columbus.

Louis was transported by Cherokee County EMS to Freeman Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Cherokee County Sheriffs Office is investigating the crash.
