Body discovered near railroad tracks in Chanute

The initial examination of the body found by the railroad tracks in the wooded area North of 14th Street has found nothing to reveal any indication of foul play. Investigators are continuing with their followup and the the completion of the autopsy. Detectives are following up on leads as to the identity of the individual with the investigators going to contact family members as soon as positive identification has been made. The investigation is on going at this time.

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE CITY OF CHANUTE (CORRECTED BY REQUEST)

The Chanute Police Department is investigating the discovery of a body found near the railroad tracks just north of 14th Street near South Henry Street. The identity of the individual is unknown at this time. The body will be taken for autopsy to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and the Chanute Police Department is requesting any information that might help to identify the person.
