Volleyball Signs Three

Pittsburg State head volleyball coach IbraheemSuberu announces the signing of three high school student-athletes, CassidyBarnard, Aryana Crittleton and Chandler Templin to play for the Gorillasbeginning in the 2014 season.

Cassidy Barnard is a 5-11 outside hitter/setter from Gridley, Kan. She attendsMadison High School where she is coached by Crystal Ecton. Barnard is athree-time All-Grassland selection, a three-time All-Lyon County Leagueselection and earned a spot on the Eureka All-Tournament team for three years.She led the team in kills digs and aces for three seasons. Also an outstandingstudent, Barnard is a Kansas Honor Scholar, President of Madison High'sNational Honor Society and a high honor roll student. She plays club ball forthe Emporia Shock/Lightning. Cassidy is the daughter of Kelly and DonitaBarnard. She is interested in majoring in biology at Pittsburg State.

"Cassidy is a very physical attacker who hits a heavy ball," Suberusaid. "She is very explosive off the ground and moves her hand through theball decisively. Her power is highly needed in a conference that is now filledwith power hitters not just finesse attackers. She is a standout because shealso sets. This background of playing both positions will be advantageous fromher first year onward."

Aryana Crittleton is a 6-1 middle blocker from Olathe, Kan. She attends OlatheNorthwest High School. She is an honor roll student and a member of theNational Honor Society. Crittleton has played seven years of club volleyballfor adidas Team Dynasty. The team placed fourth at the Colorado Crossroads andthird at the Lonestar Tournament. Ary is the daughter of Sean and KarriCrittleton. She plans to major in biology at Pittsburg State.

"Ary is a very gifted athletic middle with efficient movement for blockingand attacking point scoring," Suberu said. "She is very explosivewith exceptional range both at the offensive and defensive positions. She has afavorable skill set and the ability to play high above the net. We are gettinga matured person who has a strong work ethic and the drive to succeed."


Chandler Templin is a 5-9 outside/rightside hitter from Colleyville, Texas. Sheattends Colleyville Heritage High School where she is coached by Jamie Siegel.The team has gone 83-12 over the last two seasons and won regional andsub-state titles. She has played seven seasons for the Tejas Volleyball Club.Chandler is the daughter of Steve and Debbie Templin. She plans to major inmarketing at Pittsburg State.

"Having had the opportunity work with Chandler over the past five years,we are familiar with her outstanding work ethic, big heart and genuine love ofvolleyball training and competition," Suberu said. "She is aterminator as an outside hitter with exceptional first touch as primarypasser/defensive player. When you have someone travel from Texas to spend theirsummer here and attend our training camps year after year, you know their levelof commitment is off the chart. Chandler is a Gorilla inside out."

    Former Labette Community College baseball pitcher, Jeremy Smith, was drafted on June 14 in the 2017 MLB draft in the 38th round by the San Diego Padres. Smith played for the Cardinals, under head coach Aaron Keal, in the spring of 2014 and 2015. He is the son of Jeremy and Tendeka Smith and a graduate of Bellaire High School. After attending LCC, he went on to play at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, OK. More >>
