Local hunger relief programs administered through Crosslines, The Salvation Army and Watered Gardens will each receive their funds this week and continue their year round work of caring for the many hungry and food insecure people in Joplin. If you loved your soup and bread, please patronize and express your gratitude to the restaurants it came from.  If you love your new bowls, take a class at Phoenix and learn how to make them. Next November YOU could contribute a bowl or two to the event.

Posted November 21, 2013:  In Joplin, the Salvation Army and Phoenix Fired Art are joining forces again for the second annual Empty Bowls 2013 Bowl-A-Thon.

Last year, the fundraiser raised about $12,000, and they ran out of bowls.

This past July about 40 volunteers and students made as many bowls as they could.

And due to a good turnout last year, the event has been expanded to both lunch and dinner.

For a $15 donation you get a bowl and fill it up with soup provided by a number of area restaurants, with the proceeds going to Crosslines Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, and Watered Gardens, to help to fight hunger.

The dinner starts at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday).  It's at the Phoenix Fired Art Studio at 1603 South Main Street.
