Joplin Shelter doubles size thanks to expansion

Updated:

A Joplin shelter recently doubled their size by expanding.

The watered gardens gospel rescued mission held a ribbon cutting for their new expanded shelter. The new space includes a kitchen, chapel, classroom and worth-shop area.

The shelter currently houses 30 men, but there will now be an expanded women's dorm wing.
Officials say having more beds means people will feel more at home during their time of need

"This is the time of year where everyone needs to be connected to family. So we have an opportunity to care about people and to become their family during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season." says James Whitford, Executive Director of Watered Gardens.

The expansion began back in may of last year and was completed thanks to a $3600 dollar grant from the Soroptimist International of Joplin Society.
