Police asking shoppers to be cautious this holiday season

Updated:

Police are asking shoppers to be cautious during the holiday season.  Ninety reports of theft were recorded last month in Joplin.  Police say these things could help you avoid theft:  Put items inside your trunk while shopping at more than one store.  Double check the locks in your vehicle and home.  Put MP3 players, iPads, and detachable stereo systems inside glove boxes, also part nearest to entrances and under lights.

"They should call the police department first thing, ideally, before they leave.  That way we can respond to the scene, need be, and process the scene for any evidence," says Sergeant Ryan West with the Joplin Police Department.

If you are traveling out of town, officers could pass by your home while you're gone.  To sign up, call the police department.
