St Mary's Catholic Church and School in Joplin receives $300,000 to help with new facility

Updated December 4:  At a presentation today, the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri announced it is giving a $300,000 grant from the Joplin Recovery Fund to St. Mary's Catholic Church and School.

The grant is intended to help St. Mary's construct a new facility and return to its mission of serving the faith-based community and the poor of Joplin. St. Mary's facilities were completely destroyed in the May 22, 2011 EF-5 tornado.

The Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri, Inc. will make a significant grant from the Joplin Recovery Fund to St. Mary's Catholic Church and School at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Hardy, Wrestler, & Associates CPA, 2430 Jackson Ave., Joplin.

The grant, the amount of which will be revealed at the presentation, is intended to help St. Mary's construct a new facility and return to its mission of serving the faith-based community and the poor of Joplin. St. Mary's facilities were completely destroyed in the May 22, 2011 EF-5 tornado.

If you are unable to make it to the grant presentation, the CFSWMO will provide a news release and photo from the event.

The Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri established the Joplin Recovery Fund to support mid- and long-term community redevelopment efforts to rebuild from the deadly tornado that struck on May 22, 2011. To date, more than $3.2 million in grants have been awarded from the Joplin Recovery Fund to Joplin-area nonprofits to help further this mission.

    The Wyandotte Nation is searching for the next Chief of Police, according to the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma. Ken Murphy has resigned his position as Chief of Police of the Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department (WNTPD) after serving in the position for nine years. Officer Faron Lee, who has served with the department for eleven years, will serve as Interim Police Chief.
