Mueller Named Head Coach of Pittsburg State Volleyball

Updated:

Press Release PSU:

Pittsburg State University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Johnson announced today (Dec. 4) that Jenny Mueller has been promoted to the role of head volleyball coach.

Mueller, who served the last three seasons (2011-13) as the Gorillas' assistant coach, was elevated to interim head coach on Nov. 21 when Ibraheem Suberu announced his retirement following a highly-successful 15-year tenure leading the Gorillas.

During the past three seasons on the Pitt State staff, Mueller has helped develop 10 All-MIAA performers, including the 2013 MIAA Freshman of the  Year.

"We are excited about the future of the Gorilla Volleyball program with Coach Mueller leading our squad," Johnson said. "Jenny has earned the trust and respect of our student-athletes. She has illustrated strong leadership qualities during her time working with Coach Suberu, and her coaching background and experiences have positioned her for continued success."

Prior to joining the Pitt State staff, Mueller served as head coach at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., from 2008-10. During that time, she guided the Owls to a 64-43 (.598) overall record, including a 29-7 mark in 2009. While at WWU, Mueller mentored two NAIA All-Americans, 10 All-Conference honorees as well as 19 student-athletes who garnered Academic All-Conference recognition.

Mueller also previously served three years as head coach at Coffeyville Community College, and she enjoyed stints serving on the coaching staffs at MIAA rivals Central Missouri and Washburn as well.

Additionally, Mueller has been active in club volleyball, coaching the LaCoMo and Topeka Impact Force Volleyball Clubs, before moving to Pittsburg and serving an integral role with the Pittsburg YMCA Star Aquila team.

Mueller received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Missouri. She earned a BSed in 1996 and a master's of science in physical education and sports science degree in 2007.

Mueller is a native of Blackburn, Mo.
