NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL FFA ORGANIZATION

AVMA veterinary science prize awarded to FFA student from Parsons, Kansas

(SCHAUMBURG, Ill.) December 12, 2013- The National FFA Organization presented a $500 American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) veterinary science award to Jenna Rachelle Bogner of Parsons, Kansas.

Bogner was named a finalist for the National FFA Organization's proficiency award in Veterinary Science - Entrepreneurship/Placement. She was one of four who won this award at the national finals Oct. 30-Nov. 2 during the 86th national FFA convention and expo in Louisville, Ky.

"Being selected as a finalist for the veterinary science award shows me that all of my hard work is paying off. I've been working in the veterinary field for over four years at two different veterinary clinics, and it's my dream to return to a rural community as a veterinarian in a mixed animal practice," says Bogner. "The award is currently in a college fund. My goal from here include gaining acceptance into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, which will lead me to my future career as a veterinarian."

The AVMA awards $500 to three finalists and $1,000 to the national winner of the AVMA Veterinary Science - Entrepreneurship/Placement award through the FFA. Bogner

is a Kansas State University student, majoring in Animal Sciences and Industry with a Pre-Vet Option, who plans to attend veterinary school after graduating.

Proficiency awards recognize outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business, working for an existing company or otherwise gaining hands-on career experience. The AVMA Veterinary Science - Entrepreneurship/Placement Award is one of 49 proficiency program areas in which FFA members can participate to develop valuable experience and leadership skills at the local, state and national level.

The award, sponsored by the AVMA, is a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The national winner this year was Cayci Danielle Allison of the Lemoore FFA Chapter in California.
