Updated:

POSTED ON BEHALF OF THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

MoDOT/Southwest Travel Advisory: For Friday, Dec. 13

* Freezing rain, rain, sleet and snow expected starting early Friday morning and lasting through the day.

Weather Conditions: Freezing rain is predicted to being falling in the early morning hours of Friday. The freezing rain could change over to rain during midday and then transition to sleet and snow late on Friday night into Saturday morning, Dec. 14.

Travel Conditions: Road conditions are expected to deteriorate once the freezing rains starts falling. Drivers can expect very slow going during Friday morning rush hour. Travel conditions may improve during the daytime when temperatures rise above freezing. But conditions could deteriorate again Friday evening as temperatures drop below freezing. Road conditions may change very quickly as temperatures hover around freezing. Please monitor MoDOT’s Traveler Information map for the latest road conditions.

Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will be on the road ahead of the storm. Crews will concentrate on treating/clearing the most heavily-traveled roads first and will move to lesser-traveled roads to treat hills, curves and intersections as time allows. Crews will remain out until all major roads are cleared. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution.

Winter Weather Driving Tips:
* Buckle up.
* Adjust your speed to weather conditions.
* Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/salting the road.
* Keep your windshield and other windows clear to help you see.
* Be alert for road conditions that may change as you drive.
* Don't tailgate.
* Focus on driving and avoid distractions.
* Allow for extra travel time.
