Giving back brings a Columbus family closer together

Updated:

Preparations are underway for an annual holiday feast in Columbus, KS.

Robin Jones has organized the dinner for 31 years.

"I wanted to do something, and I knew Columbus needed some support," said Robin Jones.

Once Jones moved to Columbus with her husband, she saw a need not being met. The local meals on wheels program didn't serve senior citizens on holidays.

Jones wanted to help; she went to local businesses and asked food donations.

"After years they've kept on giving me more and more stuff, and other organizations got involved," said Jones.

Each guest will receive a gift, and rumors are Santa will make an appearance.

Jones says, "When these people get here they are excited and I try to make them feel comfortable. I tell them whatever is going on in your world right now forget about it, because you here around family and friends."

The meal begins at noon at the 4-H building in Columbus.
114 W Country Rd, Columbus, KS 66725
