Governor Brownback Announces Appointments to Commissions and Boards

Governor Brownback Announces Appointments to Commissions and Boards

Topeka – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback announced today recent appointments to boards and commissions.

“I appreciate the time and talents these Kansans are willing to volunteer to continue to make our state great,” said Governor Brownback.

The governor’s office is always looking for qualified, interested Kansans to serve the state on commissions and boards in their areas of expertise. If you are interested in serving on a commission or board, please visit http://governor.ks.gov/serving-kansans/office-of-appointments.

Solid Waste Grants Advisory Committee

The advisory committee serves to award grants to cities, counties, and other municipalities. These grants pay for up to 75% of project costs for any projects relating to development or operation of recycling, source reduction, waste minimization and solid waste management public education programs.

  • Joseph Pajor, Wichita, is being reappointed to a two year term. Mr. Pajor earned a bachelor degree from Benedictine College and a master’s degree from Wichita State University. He currently woks as the Health Officer and Assistant Director of Public Works in Wichita.
  • Stacy Neilson, Kinsley, is being reappointed to a two year term. Ms. Neilson currently works for the Edwards County Conservation District.
  • P. Shawn Herrick, Topeka, is being reappointed to a two year term. Ms. Herrick earned a bachelor degree from Kansas State University. She currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Kansas Land Title Association, Executive Director of Mid-America Tire Dealers Association, and Executive Director of Kansas Landfill Association.
  • M. Wayne Blackbourn, Waverly, is being reappointed to serve a two year term. Mr. Blackbourn earned a bachelor degree from University of Kansas. He currently works as the County Engineer for Coffey County, Kansas.
  • Dr. James Triplett, Pittsburg, is being reappointed to a two year term. Dr. Triplett earned a bachelor and master’s degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg and his Ph.D. from University of Kansas. Dr. Triplett is currently a professor of biology at Pittsburg State University.
  • Charles Peckham, Atwood, is being reappointed to a two year term. Mr. Peckham earned a bachelor degree from Washburn University, a master’s degree from Ohio State University, and a law degree from University of Kansas, School of Law. He currently is a partner at Brown, Creighton & Peckham.

Kansas State Rehabilitation Council

The Kansas Rehabilitation Council works in partnership with Kansans with disabilities to achieve their goals for employment and independence.

  • Hal Schultz, Lawrence, is being appointed to serve a three year term. Mr. Schultz attended Project Clear at Johnson County Community College. He currently serves as a Community Liaison and Advocacy Trainer for the Self Advocate Coalition of Kansas.
  • Roxanne Treece, McPherson, is being appointed to serve the unexpired term of Michael Jurkovich. Ms. Treece is currently the President of NAMI, McPherson.

Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities

The purpose of the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD) is to support people of all ages with developmental disabilities so they have the opportunity to make choices regarding both their participation in society, and their quality of life.

  • Bradley Linnenkamp, Lawrence, is being appointed to serve a three year term. Mr. Linnenkamp currently works as a Self-Advocacy Trainer at Self Advocacy Coalition of Kansas.
  • Bill Story, Overland Park, is being appointed to serve a three year term. Mr. Story currently works as a CLEAR Program Aide at Johnson County Community College.

Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners

The Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners works to promote public health, safety, and welfare relative to the practice of veterinary medicine.

  • Gregory Bogue DVM, Goddard, is being reappointed to a four year term. Mr. Bogue earned a bachelor degree from Kansas State University. He currently owns and operates Bogue Animal Hospital West, P.A.

State Building Advisory Commission

The State Building Advisory Commission is attached to the Department of Administration and is comprised of seven members with the Administration Secretary serving as a member and the chairperson of the commission.

  • Matt Flerlage, Topeka, is being reappointed to serve a four year term. Mr. Flerlage currently works as the Business Representative and Organizer for the Carpenters District Co. of Kansas City and the vicinity.

North-Central Kansas Library System

The North Central Kansas Libraries System is a regional System of cooperating libraries whose purpose is to better utilize human and material resources by sharing programs and services.

  • Mary White, Hanover, is being reappointed to serve a four year term. Ms. White currently works as the Activity Director and Purchasing Manager for Washington County Hospital. She has served on the North Central Library System board since 1997.

Northwest Kansas Library System

NWKLS is one of seven regional library systems in Kansas, which provides cooperative support to all types of libraries in a sparsely populated region of Kansas. There are ten counties in Northwest Kansas that participate: Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Norton, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas, Trego, and Wallace, with a total population of 37,610. The system serves 21 public libraries, 33 school libraries, 2 academic libraries, and 3 special libraries.

  • Bette James, Hoxie, is being reappointed to serve a four year term. Ms. James earned a bachelor and master’s degree from Fort Hays State University. She currently works as a Copy Editor for Imaging Notes and LBx Journal.

Kansas State Use Law Committee

The State Use Law Committee advises the Director of Purchases on issues surrounding the purchase of products and services provided by blind or disabled persons. The committee consists of nine members.

  • Shelby Fry, Auburn, is being appointed to serve a two year term. Ms. Fry earned a bachelor degree from Baker University. She currently works as the Employment Services Director for TARC Industries.

Kansas Information Technology Executive Council

The 17 member Information Technology Executive Council is responsible for approval and maintenance of all information technology policies, IT project management procedures, the statewide technical architecture, and the state's strategic information management plan.

  • Janice Fine, Sedan, is being appointed to serve an eighteen month term. Ms. Fine is currently the Chautauqua County Clerk and owner of Fit Zone.

Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission

The Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission is tasked with presenting the Governor with a slate of three candidates whenever a vacancy occurs on the Kansas Supreme Court or the Court of Appeals.

  • Don Dahl, Hillsboro, is being appointed to serve the remainder of the unexpired term of Janet Juhnke, who passed away. Mr. Dahl earned a bachelor degree from Tabor College in Hillsboro. He served for 22 years in the United States Navy and went on to serve in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1996 until 2008.
