Parsons man sentenced to 20 years for child sex crimes

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF KANSAS ATTORNEY GENERAL DEREK SCHMIDT

PARSONS – (December 19, 2013) – A Parsons man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today.

Michael Dean Barker, 23, was sentenced to 241 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Judge Jeffry L Jack in Labette County District Court. Barker pleaded guilty to the charges in November. The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Parsons Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The offenses occurred in January 2009 against a victim under the age of 14.

Assistant Attorney General Christine Ladner of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.

    The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is working an accident on Highway 66 east of Riverton, Kansas. According to Sheriff Groves, a road construction worker from KDOT was taken to a Joplin hospital with what he believes to be non-life threatening injuries after being electrocuted today (June 22, 2018).
