Some families in need in Neosho receive some extra cheer this Christmas season

Updated:

Families in Neosho, Missouri will have some extra cheer this Christmas, thanks to volunteers at the Newton County Central Dispatch Center.

Donated toys were distributed to parents there today.  Volunteers say about 250 families and 245 kids received toys.

Both families and volunteers say the whole experience touches them beyond words.

"It feels good to be able to help children, because they get so excited about Christmas, and you know that it will be a happy time for them.  So I feel good about doing that part," says volunteer Mari Mallory.

"It's just a blessing to us to get these free things, and not have to go out and buy things we can't afford to get," says Kendra Brattin, a mother.

Other emergency departments throughout Newton County have toy distributions planned as well.
