MODOT prepares for possible slick roads tonight

Many roads across the Four States could get slick tonight.  Right now, MODOT is trying to prepare for the possibility of dangerous road conditions.

MODOT crews will spread salt and plow on the busiest roads most often.  Once crews begin their work, they ask drivers to stay at least 100 feet behind MODOT trucks.

Drivers shouldn't tailgate anyone, and allow plenty of extra driving time between point "A" and "B".

Sometimes, MODOT pre-treats roads with salt ahead of a storm.  But rain in the area has the potential to wash away a lot of that pre-treatment.

"It's kind of a judgement call, and our maintenance staff will be looking at how the storm develops, and they they'll be making that decision as it develops.  It's not as simple as, we always do the same thing and put pre-treatment down," says Dan Salisbury with MODOT.

Drivers can monitor road conditions at modot.org.
