Westar Energy Calls in Extra Crews to Restore Power


Westar Energy brought  in more than seventy  extra crews Saturday night from out of town to help restore  electricity to thousands left without power due to the ice storm. 

Crews from Wichita - Topeka - the Kansas City region and all southeast Kansas employees have not stopped working since power went out Saturday . 

Crews in Pittsburg continue to cut down limbs and change blown fuses and transformers. 
Westar says the ongoing problem is ice. Mike Willis the manager of Westar's SEK operations says, "It was mainly ice loads on the trees and we have to go out when the circuit goes off and send out our first responders and unfortunately in this case it was mainly trees. "
Bitter cold temperatures  come as some are still without power. Westar has forty-four households still without electricity and Empire District 166 in the Carthage, and Duenweg area. 
That as temperatures are expected to fall to around ten degrees.
