Parsons Chamber of Commerce Holiday Lighting Contest Winners Announced

The Parsons Chamber is excited to announce the winners of the Holiday Lighting Contest. The Parsons Chamber of Commerce Holiday Lighting Contest was brought to you by Westar Energy. Nineteen residents and five businesses entered the lighting contest. “I was very pleased with the number of entries for a first year contest. We had some very close totals on the judging. Overall we thought it was just great to see so many houses having lights up and most were even timed to music,” said Jonna Gabbert, Parsons Chamber Director of PR, Marketing & Events. The Christmas lighting contest had a top prize of $300 for residents. Second place earned $150, with third receiving $75. The contest also had a business category, with the first-place business getting $100 donated to the charity of its choice, second place $75 and third $50. Chamber President Jim Zaleski said, “Westar’s sponsorship covered all of the costs, including the prize money, signs that will be placed in the winners’ yards and promotional expenses.”

The Chamber would like to thank everyone for all of the time & energy they put into their holiday lights. Not only did you bring joy to the city, you helped make our community beautiful!,” said Gabbert. Parsons resident, Shawna Yockey, said her family liked that there was a list of houses participating in the contest and directions in the Parsons Sun and on Facebook so you could visit the area Christmas Lights with your family. “All of the lights around town look amazing!,” noted Yockey. After Christmas the Chamber plans to have a reception to award the residential winners their cash prizes. Business winners and their chosen award recipients will also attend.
