A Joplin Jewelry Store Celebrates 100 Years Of Business

Updated:

It's a family tradition for one Joplin business, passing down the business to your kids. And for the owners of Newton Jewelers they've done it three times.
Bunny Newton is the current owner of the store located on Main Street in Joplin. His father, George began the store chain in January 1914 with 16 different locations across Oklahoma and Missouri.
Today, the Joplin location and the Mcalester, Oklahoma location are the only stores remaining. Newton says keeping the business in the family is what keeps people coming back to the store.
"I'm particularly proud because my dad wanted this. And he always wanted us to carry on, and I'm the second generation, Brian is the 3rd generation, and Sam someday we hope will be in with us," said owner Bunny Newton.
Bunny says another great accomplishment--along with 100 years in business, January will also mark his 91st birthday...
He says he's thankful for his life and that he's still able to be working at the business he loves.
