New Physicians join Mercy Joplin family

Kenneth Watts, MD, joined Mercy Clinic General and Specialty Surgery in October. Dr. Watts received his medical education from the University of North Dakota in Bismarck. He completed his general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Watts is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is accepting new patients at 3020 St John’s Boulevard, Suite F, in Joplin. The office number is 417-781-4404.

Doris Purvis, MD joined Mercy Hospitalists for Mercy McCune Brooks Hospital Carthage on December 2. Dr. Purvis received her medical education from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. She completed her internal medicine residency at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania. Stephen Purvis, DO, joined Mercy Clinic Orthopedics - Joplin on December 2. Dr. Purvis received his medical education from University of Health Sciences – COM, Kansas City, Missouri. He completed his orthopedic residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center and completed his fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Purvis is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Purvis’s office is located at 3126 S. Jackson Avenue, Suite 200. He can be reached at 417-625-2278.

Catherine E. Chatal, MD, joined Mercy Clinic Plastic Surgery - Joplin December 16. Dr. Chatal received her medical education from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. She completed her plastic surgery residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York, New York, as well as her four-year general surgery residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York. Dr. Chatal has also completed her breast reconstruction fellowship at the Center for Breast and Body Contouring in Grand Rapids, Michigan and later joined The Smile Train for cleft lip and palate medical missions in Uganda, Africa. She is board certified in plastic surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Chatal’s office is located at 3020 Saint John’s Blvd, Suite D. Dr. Copeland received her medical education from the School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri, specializing in eating disorders. She completed her psychology residency at Community Mental Health Consultants, Inc. in Nevada, Missouri. Dr. Copeland has also completed her fellowship at the School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in Springfield. She is a licensed professional counselor with the state of Missouri and is a member of the American Psychological Association and Association for Size Diversity and Health.     The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is working an accident on Highway 66 east of Riverton, Kansas. According to Sheriff Groves, a road construction worker from KDOT was taken to a Joplin hospital with what he believes to be non-life threatening injuries after being electrocuted today (June 22, 2018).     Workers level the ground on a piece of property that will change hundreds of kids' lives "We staff all of the child abuse and molestation cases in Ottawa County.
