KU Cross Country’s Buchanan Named Big 12 Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year

PRESS RELEASE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS: 

Kansas junior Reid Buchananwas named the Big 12 Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year theconference announced as it released its 2013 fall sports recipients Tuesday.The honor marks the first time a KU cross country runner has won the award andthe fifth Kansas athlete to be named a scholar athlete since the award'sinception in 2012.

 

Buchanan sports a3.47 grade point average as an electrical engineering major at Kansas. TheManhattan, Kan., native is also a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Teammember and has been one of KU cross country's top-four runners in each race hehas competed in over the last two seasons.

 

In 2013, Buchananled the KU men to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Midwest RegionalChampionships, the group's highest finish at the meet in seven seasons. He alsogarnered All-Region honors after tallying a 12th-place individualfinish which earned himself an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.Buchanan went on to take 142nd at the meet held in Terre Haute,Ind., the best finish by a Jayhawk at the national meet since 2006.

 

The student-athletes selectedfor the awards were chosen for their respective sports based on a vote of eachsport's head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their ownstudent-athletes.

    JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Republican Gov. Mike Parson has named state Treasurer Eric Schmitt to replace Sen.-elect as Missouri's attorney general. Parson appointed the 43-year-old Republican on Tuesday. The attorney general's seat will be open once Hawley joins the U.S. Senate in January. Hawley unseated Democratic Sen.
