Students in Baxter Springs, Kansas returned to school on Wednesday, but they went back to a brand new school.

The new facility, more than a year in the making thanks to a 2012 bond, is now connected to Baxter Springs High School.

Students started the day at the new facility and then were bussed over to the old school for a "good-bye" ceremony, where teachers, faculty, and alumni shared old memories.

"My grandpa and grandma were part of the last graduating class from the high school here so it's really cool to be part of the last 8th grade class here," says eighth grade student Karissa How.

The grand reopening was originally scheduled for Tuesday but a snow day for the district pushed that opening back.
