Power restored throughout Joplin

Some southwest Missouri residents are in the dark this morning.

Nearly 8,100 of Empire's customers are experiencing power outages, according to the company's outage map.

Empire District Electric spokeswoman Amy Bass said a car hit a power pole on Newman Road in Joplin, which is impacting several of Empire's major substations.

Bass says Empire is working to restore power as soon as possible.

Empire District Electric is reporting nearly 6,400 of those power outages in the Joplin and Duquesne area.

More than 1,600 people are currently without power in Webb City.

In the Jasper and Carthage area, 62 customers are currently in the dark.

UPDATED AT 10:10 AM:  Empire's outage map shows power has been restored.
