U.S. 69 open house is January 23 at Arma

Updated:

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED JANUARY 9, 2014 BY THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

U.S. 69 open house is January 23 at Arma

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is planning a public information open house for the T-WORKS project that will expand U.S. 69 to a four-lane upgradable expressway between Fort Scott and Arma. The open house will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Northeast High School, 1003 E. South Street, in Arma.

KDOT will brief local officials on the project at 3:30 p.m. the same day, also at Northeast High School.

The open house will enable the public to view the latest maps and information on the 11-mile U.S.69 expansion. The KDOT design team has started refining the initial construction plan with regards to existing and proposed access points along the highway. KDOT anticipates construction on the expansion project will begin in 2017.

Information will also be available on the proposed six-mile U.S.69 Arma Connection that begins at K-47 and continues north to 680th Avenue in Crawford County. The Arma Connection, which would create a four-lane expressway around the city of Arma, is not funded for construction.

People can visit the open house any time between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., as no formal presentation is planned. If Northeast High School is closed for inclement weather on January 23, the open house and briefing for public officials will be rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 30, at the same time and location.

The meeting location is ADA accessible. Persons in need of a sign language interpreter, an assistive listening device, large print or Braille material, or other accommodation to attend this meeting should notify Priscilla Petersen at Priscilla@ksdot.org, phone (620) 431-1000 (Voice), or phone (785) 296-3585 (Voice)/Hearing Impaired – 711. It would be appreciated if the accommodation request is made at least 10 days in advance of the meeting.

T-WORKS is the statewide transportation program approved by the Kansas Legislature in 2010. For more information about T-WORKS projects and funding, visit the website at www.ksdot.org/tworks.
