Southern volleyball adds another for 2014

MissouriSouthern volleyball coach John Napier has announced the signing of juniorcollege transfer Jacy Ermel to add to the signing class of 2014. 

Ermel, a 6-0outside hitter, is a native of Uniontown, Kan. and comes to Southern after twoseasons at Fort Scott Community College. An All-Tournament selection at FortScott, Ermel finished her career with the second-most kills in a career, aswell as a season for the Greyhounds. As a sophomore, Ermel registered 175 killsand 96 digs, while knocking down 67 blocks for an average of 0.55 perset. 

Ermel preppedat Uniontown High School where she was a three-sport athlete. On the volleyballcourt, Ermel played for coach Jackie Hall and was a first-team All-SEKselection three times, while being named to the All-State Tournament team as ajunior. A three-year starter for the Eagles, Ermel was also a member of theAVCA All-Academic Team.

Also astandout in basketball and track and field, Ermel was a four-year starter onthe basketball court where she was a second-team All-State selection twice, aswell as being named All-Conference three times. She was a state qualifier inthe javelin, discus and shot put. 

She holds theUniontown school record for kills in a season (707) and career, 1,847, as wellas points in a season (279) and career (604). She also holds the record forrebounds in a game (23) and career points (793). 

Ermel is theson of Jimmie and Jo Ermel and she plans to major in accounting at Southern.She has twin daughters, Maya and Kennedy.

     Missouri Southern was the unanimous pick to win the MIAA Men's Cross Country Championship, while in the women's poll four different teams earned first place votes.
