Joplin High School announces Poetry Out Loud contest

JOPLIN HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES POETRY OUT LOUD CONTEST

WHAT: Joplin High School announces a school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The competition, presented in partnership with Connect2Culture, The Missouri Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. On January 21st, four students from Joplin High School will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest at the 9-10 Campus Auditorium (310 W 8th St, Joplin, MO 64801). The winner of this competition will advance to the Regional Poetry Out Loudcontest in Springfield, MO. The regional winner will advance to the state competition. The Missouri state champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on April 28-29, 2014 in Washington, D.C., where $50,000 dollars in awards and school prizes will be distributed.

Sarah Burgess, Joplin Schools English Teacher as Guest Judge

Cleo Copeland, Community Arts Supporter as Guest Judge

Emily Frankoski, Community Arts Coordinator at Connect2Culture as Accuracy Judge

Four high school students will be competing at the school level for a chance to go onto regional competition in Springfield, MO.

WHEN: Tuesday, January 21st at 4pm

WHERE: Joplin High School 9-10 Campus Auditorium (310 W 8th St, Joplin, MO 64801)

    The state of Kansas now has a Republican nominee for Governor. What has been a roller coaster primary between Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer and Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Colyer announced today he is conceding defeat and is endorsing Kobach. Kobach will face the Democratic nominee Laura Kelly.  Governor Colyer was elevated from his position after former Kansas Governor Sam Brownback took an ambassador's position.

    A Springfield man was indicted by a federal grand jury today (Aug 14, 2018) for making a bomb threat at a Veterans Affairs Clinic. 48-year-old Richard Leslie Turner III allegedly threatened to blow up the Community Based Outpatient Clinic located at 600 N. Main Street in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
