NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF KANSAS GOVERNOR SAM BROWNBACK

Governor Brownback issues order for propane delivery following recent frigid temperatures

Topeka –Kansas Governor Sam Brownback issued an executive order Tuesday to grant temporary relief from motor carrier rules and regulations to ensure the continued delivery of propane to businesses and individuals across the state. Recent cold weather throughout the region prompted the decision which provides relief for 30 days. This declaration applies only to motor carriers delivering propane directly in relief efforts.

“Recent cold weather across our region and long waiting lines has created an increased demand for propane throughout our state,” Governor Brownback said. “That demand continues even after the most severe cold weather has left our area and there is a potential for rationing of propane deliveries without this action.”

Executive Order 14-02 applies only to those motor carriers delivering propane directly participating in relief efforts. In accordance with Title 49 C.F.R. § 390.23:

  • Temporarily suspends the requirements contained in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Title 49 C.F.R. Parts 390-399;
  • Temporarily suspends registration and fuel tax permits required by the Kansas Department of Revenue;
  • Temporarily suspends the licensing, certification and permitting rules and regulations required by the Kansas Corporation Commission;
  • Temporarily waives permit fees for over dimension and overweight loads as required by the Kansas Department of Transportation
Drivers must still obtain permits required for over dimension and overweight loads.

EO 14-02 is in effect through Feb. 14, 2014.
