One armed MMA fighter in Carthage

Updated:

Inside the cage he goes by the name Wrecking Ball Rector. Unlike most of his opponents he fights with only one arm.

Joshua Rector, an Army veteran, lost his left arm while serving in Iraq.

"We were coming back from a mission, due to driver error the vehicle rolled off the road and landed right on top of my arm and just completely severed it off."

He spent six months at a Washington D.C. Rehab. Rector says once he returned home, he was depressed and made some mistakes.

"A lot of it was dealing with the fact that I lost my hand and I was going to get out the army. I loved it a lot," said Rector.

The veteran, turned MMA fighter says the sport is like therapy.

"It has really helped me come a long way. I was in a real bad place couple years ago and you know mix martial arts really gave me direction, and helped me get my life back on track."

Rector will fight in a upcoming Blackout Fighting Championship in Carthage, MO on Saturday night.

The event itself will be held at 6550 County Road 170 Carthage, MO 64836. Doors open for the event at 5:30 p.m. and the fights begin at 7:00 p.m..

Cost for fans to enter the event is $30 general admission, and VIP is $40.
