Screening of Dr. King's speeches at George Washington Carver National Monument

Four State residents gathered Monday near Diamond, Missouri to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior.

A screening of a film showing a collection of Dr. King's speeches was held at the George Washington Carver National Monument.

Event organizers hoped to shed light on ideologies that both MLK and George Washington Carver shared.

"I would say that King was likely influenced by some aspects, like Carver, with the idea of non-violence demonstrations - Carver was a believer in peace and racial harmony," says park guide Douglas Bazaar.  "This is something that King tried to promote."

Monday's event was free to the public.
