Long Continues to Fight for Life 41 Years After Roe v. Wade; Works to Advance Important Pro Life Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Billy Long believes in the sanctity of human life and that all children deserve the opportunity to grow up in a loving and stable family.

Forty-one years ago the U.S. Supreme Court issued their decision on abortion.

“I am pro-life and believe life begins at the moment of conception. I will continue fighting for the rights of the unborn child,” Long said. “My Adoption Promotion Act is a definite step in the right direction to protect innocent children. Adoption options will be much more accessible to expecting mothers who cannot provide for their child. Many children will get a chance at life, love, and the opportunity for a promising future with a loving family.”

Long is the lead sponsor of the Adoption Promotion Act, H.R. 3539, which would ensure that all women who access family planning services provided with Title X funding are given pregnancy options counseling which includes professional adoption counseling. When a woman feels she is unable to care for her child, for whatever reason, it is vital that she knows she still has an option to provide her child with life and a good, loving future through adoption.

The Adoption Promotion Act would also provide for the collection of data on the effectiveness of pregnancy options counseling and adoption counseling so that we can make sure that women are receiving the most effective counseling possible for their child.
