Long nominates southwest Missouri students to United States Service Academies

Long Nominates 7th District Students to United States Service Academies

SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Rep. Billy Long is happy to announce his nominations of 15 7th District students to United States Service Academies.

“One of my most gratifying duties is to nominate young people from our district to service academies. I want to thank these students for their interest in serving our nation and know they will make Southwest Missouri proud,” Long said.

Long nominated the following students:

  • Jacob Broz of Willard, currently attending Willard High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • David (Seth) Carter of Republic, currently attending Republic High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Makennon Doran of Ozark, currently attending Air Force Prep School, nominated to Air Force Academy
  • Bryce Dulin of Nixa, currently attending Nixa High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Marshall Faulkner of Springfield, currently attending Willard High School, nominated to Air Force and Naval Academies
  • Matthew Henson of Joplin, currently attending Carl Junction High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Dakota Hill of Springfield, currently attending Parkview High School, nominated to Air Force Academy and West Point
  • Madison Jones of Springfield, currently attending Gloria Deo Academy, nominated to Air Force Academy
  • Brett Largent of Springfield, currently attending Willard High School, nominated to Merchant Marines and Naval Academy
  • Malachi Leece of Webb City, currently attending West Point Prep School, nominated to West Point
  • Emma Metz of Springfield, currently attending Logan-Rogersville High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Aiden Swiers of Walnut Grove, currently attending Walnut Grove High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Christopher Wood of Springfield, currently attending Missouri State University, nominated to Air Force and Naval Academies
  • James (Chandler) Yeary of Springfield, currently attending Logan-Rogersville High School, nominated to Naval Academy
  • Kaylee Zuknick of Springfield, currently attending Parkview High School, nominated to Naval Academy

    The state of Kansas now has a Republican nominee for Governor. What has been a roller coaster primary between Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer and Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Colyer announced today he is conceding defeat and is endorsing Kobach. Kobach will face the Democratic nominee Laura Kelly.  Governor Colyer was elevated from his position after former Kansas Governor Sam Brownback took an ambassador's position.

    A Springfield man was indicted by a federal grand jury today (Aug 14, 2018) for making a bomb threat at a Veterans Affairs Clinic. 48-year-old Richard Leslie Turner III allegedly threatened to blow up the Community Based Outpatient Clinic located at 600 N. Main Street in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
