Parsons Schools start 2014 with new Resource Officers

PARSONS, KS —As part of a more focused community policing effort, the Parsons Police Department has announced some changes in the School Resource Officer program. The SRO Program, a joint venture between USD 503 and the Parsons Police Department, allows a certified law enforcement officer to be present during the school day and activities.

Beginning this week, Parsons High School will welcome Teresa Pilkington as the new School Resource Officer. She will fill the position left vacant at the end of last month. PSO Pilkington began with the Parsons Police Department as a dispatcher in March 2009. Three months later, she moved into a certified law enforcement officer position where she has served as a patrol officer.

Garrett Lucas has joined the Parsons Middle School as its new School Resource Officer. PSO Lucas has been with the Parsons Police Department since April 2011.

Both school resource officers will receive official certification training this upcoming summer. Patrol Sgt. Dennis Dodd, former School Resource Officer will oversee the SRO program and will continue to assist both officers as they grow into their new roles.

“The SRO program has had good success in Parsons, and allows our law enforcement officers to continue to interact with our students on a daily basis,” said Parsons Chief of Police, Scott Gofourth. “We are extremely pleased to be a part of our local school district.”
